Pre-Operative Testing

Our office will guide you as to whether any blood or urine testing is necessary before your child’s surgery. In general,

  1. No testing is needed if your child is healthy and older than 6 months
  2. African-American children younger than 4 years require Sickle-Cell testing
  3. Girls older than 14 years require a blood or urine pregnancy test

If your child is having bladder or kidney surgery please brings the sonograms, VCUG, nuclear scans of the condition with you to the hospital. Your surgeon needs to have these x-rays in the room during the operation.

Medical Clearance

Your child needs to be evaluated by the pediatrician 1-2 days prior to surgery. You must bring this clearance with you to the hospital on the day of surgery.
